Wrist pain can be caused by a number of conditions. A sudden injury may result in a wrist sprain or fracture. But long term problems, such as repetitive stress or arthritis, may cause carpal tunnel syndrome or other nerve entrapments. The pain you feel in your wrist may radiate down your arm but can stem from neck problems. Because so many factors can lead to wrist pain, diagnosing the exact cause may be difficult but is essential to determine the proper treatment for your Brookline wrist pain. Other contributing factors may include ganglion cysts or Kienbock’s disease. Ganglion cysts are soft tissue cysts that occur most often on the part of your wrist opposite your palm. Ganglion cysts may be painful, and pain may either worsen or improve with activity. Kienbock's disease typically affects young adults and involves the progressive collapse of one of the small bones in the wrist. Kienbock's disease occurs when the blood supply to this bone is compromised.

Treatment for your Brookline wrist pain will be determined once the cause has been appropriately diagnosed. Ice and immobility may be suggested for sprains along with over-the-counter pain medication. A cast is suggested if a fracture is present. Steroid injections may treat some other causes of wrist pain, while proper ergonomics must be established to avoid repetitive stress injuries. In severe cases of carpal or cubital tunnel syndromes, when non-invasive treatments fail, surgery may be recommended. Our team of highly respected orthopedists, therapists, and acupuncturists will treat your wrist pain using non-invasive strategies first. Surgery is always their last option.
